Hiking Lacing / Biking Lacing
(Lug version)
|
|
A lug version of
Hiking / Biking Lacing, which keeps the knots & ends to the side, away from either snagging undergrowth or from
bicycle chains & cranks. |
 |
Lacing Technique:
1. The lace runs straight across the bottom (grey section) and up through both bottom lugs.
2. The laces criss-cross their way up the shoe as per Lug Criss Cross Lacing until they
reach the second set of lugs from the top of the shoe.
3. The right (blue) end runs straight up through both the second-from-top and top lug on the right side.
4. The right (blue) end then runs straight across the top of the shoe and feeds down through the top left lug.
5. The shoelace knot can then be tied between the top and second-from-top lugs on the left side of the shoe.

Messy look
Less snug at top
Comparative Length = 88%

Using This Lacing for Hiking / Bushwalking:
Lace the right shoe as pictured here and the left shoe in reverse so that the knots of both shoelaces end up
towards the inside (between the ankles). This places the loops and loose ends further away from the outer sides
of the shoes, making them less likely to become snagged in undergrowth whilst hiking / bushwalking.
Using This Lacing for Biking / Cycling:
Lace the
left shoe as pictured here and the
right shoe in reverse so that the knots of both shoelaces end up towards the
outside. This places the loops and loose ends further away from the bicycle chain, cranks and other moving parts.
