Halloween Shoelace Knot
|
|
The perfect finishing touch for a Halloween outfit or for other "creepy" occasions: Tie your shoelaces with these
miniature "Hangman's Nooses".

Step 1:
Tie a Starting Knot as shown, then make the right (blue) end into a "loop" by simply
doubling it back onto itself, exactly as is done with the Standard Knot.

Step 2:
Take the left (yellow) end and lay it alongside the right (blue) loop. Hold this lace and the sides of the loop
together as one thick triple section of lace.

Step 3:
Begin to wind the loose (yellow) end tightly around that triple section of lace, starting from about half way down the
loop and working back towards the starting knot.

Step 4:
Continue winding the loose (yellow) end around until it reaches the very bottom, forming a tight coil of lace.

Step 5:
When there is only the tiniest gap remaining at the very bottom, stop winding and feed the loose (yellow) end
through the gap.

Final Adjustments:
The top of the loop (blue) can be used for adjustments. Pulling one side will tighten the bottom of the coil,
whilst pulling the other side will adjust the size of the loop and the length of the loose (blue) end.
It may take some experimentation to get the end lengths the same. Alternatively, the coiled (yellow) end can be
kept very short so that the end barely protrudes. Again, this requires some experimentation to get it just right.

Finished Halloween Knot:
Unlike the above diagrams, which are somewhat "open" to show what goes where, the actual knot should be tightly
coiled so that it holds together firmly.
Untying the Halloween Knot:
To untie, pull on the non-coiled (blue) end until the loop is pulled all the way through the coil. The noose will
then unravel and the whole lot will simply fall apart. |

Twin Halloween Knots:
Rather than combining the two ends into the one noose, it's also possible to make each end into a separate noose.
Besides looking interesting, each noose can be slipped tight or loosened individually, which is very quick (though
not very secure).
Untying the Twin Halloween Knots:
These are even easier to untie than the regular Halloween Knot - simply pull the coiled section upwards until the
noose pulls back through itself and falls apart. |
